P60 for Instructors

If you have a Program 60 participant in class, the following resources will help you support them.

Carmen Class List

Program 60 participants are now in the Student Information System (SIS). Because of this their names will automatically appear on your Carmen class list and they will have automatic access to your course on Carmen.

Note: If a participant is have diffuculty accessing Carmen, the participant likely have not activated their account. Please have them contact the IT Help Desk at 614-688-HELP (4357).

Class Participation

The level of participation for Program 60 participants varies based on expectations set by both the instructor and the participant. Please be sure to have a conversation with your participant regarding expected participation level prior to, or during, the first week of classes. The exceptions are foreign language courses which typically require full participation by the Program 60 participant to maintain a consistent level of knowledge in the classroom.

Closed Section

Program 60 participants are eligible to audit courses on a space availability basis. For questions or concerns regarding enrollment of a Program 60 participant in your course please contact the Program 60 Coordinator.

Code of Student Conduct

Program 60 participants are held to Ohio State’s Code of Student Conduct. If you have a participant that you feel is acting in a way that is not in adherence with appropriate behavior at The Ohio State University please contact the Program 60 Coordinator or The Office of Student Life, Student Conduct, at 614-292-0748 or studentconduct@osu.edu.

Course and Leb Fees

The university now collects course and lab fees from Program 60 participants. Fee payment for course and lab fees are processed through the Bursar Office.

The Program 60 participant is auditing the class and will be preassigned a grade of "R" for Audit. As the instructor, you will not be asked to issue a grade for this student beyond the "R". On occassion participants are interested in receiving verification that they successfully completed a course and in these cases, some instructors have provided a letter directly to the student. Also, there are participants who greatly appreciate receiving an informal grade for courses that they’ve completed the work in. Again, this communication is between you and the student.

Late Registration

Program 60 participants may register online through the first Friday of each term (enrollment through the second Friday). Enrollment in courses after the second Friday of the term will not be permitted.

Library Resources

Program 60 participants are allowed access to Ohio State library resources. Access is granted to participants when they visit the Thompson Library each term to reactivate their account. They must present a BuckID to the librarian when they request reactivation. Because Program 60 participants are now enrolled and appear on the class roster, automatic access is granted to the Secured Media Library.

Ohio State Username

Each Program 60 participant has an Ohio State username (lastname.#) that is automatically assigned upon completing the registration from. If they are unable to access Carmen, or they are not on your course roster, the following issues may exist:

  1. They have not activated their username through my.osu.edu

  2. They have not completed the required registration form

    • If so, please contact the Program 60 Coordinator

Program 60 participants are not required to meet prerequisite requirements to to take part in a course, however they must receive instructor permission for those courses where prerequisites must be met. Participants are encouraged to check the prerequisites for each course to ensure that they are adequately prepared and then reach out to their instructor directly for written permission. Given the diversity of participants’ backgrounds and learning goals, instructors are encouraged to discuss the requirements of the course to ensure that their level of preparation is aligned with their expectations.
